I finally took the first step to becoming a HAM operator – will take the Technician exam in the next two weeks. I’ve been meaning to get licensed for a while, mostly in case of emergency to communicate with others locally and with family across the state. Its part of my overall emergency preparedness strategy – join the local law enforcement community as a volunteer at first, then a reserve deputy, take firearm training classes at Front Sight, become ‘rescue-certified’ with the local search and rescue team, and always looking for new worthwhile pursuits. This is a great film that I just saw for the first time – a great cop film about a Jewish detective’s denial of his history and background, and how this denial lead to his guilt and what he does to try to absolve himself of it.

Apparently a mob has attacked and robbed a city electrician on a Vallejo, CA, street in broad daylight. The police have not identified everyone involved yet. Read the story for yourself here.

There is a new crime afoot in the US: virtual kidnappings. A virtual kidnapping is one where a person is contacted and instructed to send money to someone to have a friend or relative released, and is perpetrated when this person has no way to contact the supposed victim due to them being away or somehow out of reach. This sort of crime is exactly what the Argentinian blogger FerFal has been writing as occurring in his country at the start of this decade, during the economic turbulence/collapse that occurred there, and it is now apparently happening here in California: http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_14324589?source=rss The twist in our version is that the conman claims that a friend of the victim has been arrested and requests them to wire bail money via Western Union.

Check this out – it looks like an 8-year-old. Although it looks like he is handling a .38 super caliber race gun (compensated/ported), and that’s why
he can shoot it that well. Even then, he is pushing on it – when it dry-fires you can see barrel dip. Basically – its a very soft-recoiling gun, but still its pretty good for what looks like an 8-year-old! My kids can’t do that just yet! )

Well, here we go again! Just when you thought the IPCC couldn’t be embarassed enough by their own incompetence while self-righteously telling the productive nations to cower in shame for all the progress made in the 20th Century – now we get the truth about the rainforests – seems like they’re not going to be 40% decimated after all!

More than 20 instances of non-peer-reviewed assertions were found in the IPCC publications.

No sooner had the muslim terrorist been neutralized on the grounds of Ft Hood than the chorus of PC chants from the left began to apologize and redirect attention away from the fact that the shooter was a devout muslim who shouted ‘Allah Akbar’ while killing and wounding 40+ fellow soldiers. The comments in the media were simply beyond the pale: one ‘reporter’ wrote that ‘Allah Akbar’ was actually a muslim ‘blessing’, while a commenter wrote that simply by revealing the middle-eastern-sounding name of the shooter the media was guilty of committing a hate crime. Someone mentioned that it must have been the PTSD from past deployments, until it was discovered that the killer never rotated into Iraq or Afghanistan. The Army general staff were almost equally pathetic – claiming that PC policing of the military prevented them from taking any punitive action against this killer although his radicalization was well-known. The LAST place anyone is placing blame is in the hands of Islam – isn’t this just too funny?

The mass-media is generally almost unanimously against firearms in the hands of all civilians. It is rare and, I must say exhilirating, to find anyone in the media saying logical and true things about our right to possess and carry firearms for protection. Needless to say, I was overjoyed to see the Penn & Teller ‘Bullshit’ segment on gun control. I have since discovered that Penn is also a die-hard libertarian, again to my surprise and joy.
